THE PROPHETIC SPIRIT AND ITS TEMPRAMENT

By Isaiah-Phillips Akintola

Isaiah 11:1-3

The spiritual character of a prophet

1 A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. 2 The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord 3 and he will delight in the fear of the Lord.

Since we know that the ecclesia carries different unique faces, it is therefore, important that the prophetic ministry is allowed to bring in advanced definition, clarity and Impetus to what the lord will have us built. The prophetic carries a strong anointing of what the bible terms as the craftsmanship spirit. The prophetic ministry is designed to be a giver of (creative) life and light (direction) to the (seed) vision assigned to the body of Christ.

While there are various components and emphasis of the prophetic ministry, its general, foundational objective however, is to edify (build up through intense fellowship with one another) the body of Christ. Since the primary assigned function of a prophet is designed to live in a perpetual state of worship, they are then seen as a ministry that is very close to the heartbeat of God.

While everyone else is called to worship God in the Spirit of truth, the prophetic ministry however, defines and captures what it is to live and breathe in the ascended reality of throne room worship. The prophetic truly understand the weightiness and essence of pure worship. The very mold and temperament of a kingdom-center prophet is defined to be the very essence of worship and warfare. Worship to a prophet is far beyond singing; it is the entire posture of his existence and outlook before the father, the body of Christ, and creation.

Worship, or devotion to a prophet is the very condition of lifestyle of total submission and obedience to the voice, leading and passion of the Holy Spirit. It is the desire to constantly be found where God is in his prophetic agenda for the church and humanity in general. Everything about the call of a prophet is reflected in his or her a priestly function of worshipping, interceding, meditation and fasting as the Spirit of the Lord will direct.

To a prophet, the act of worship is taken to a higher definition of the state of his thought, feelings, desire, passion, warfare, and temperaments, and even creative and imaginable ideas are deep reflection of worship to him. The whole makeup of a prophet, including what some may term as a mood, are all designed for a divine reason at specific times or season. No human will be able to precisely define the mood of a Prophet except those who can identify them by the Spirit.

The prophet’s emotional intelligence

The feelings and emotion of a prophet are not determined by good or bad time; they are rather determined by the spiritual state or condition of the heart of God over a given region or condition. The prophet’s emotional intelligence is defined by his or her spiritual wholeness; spiritual wholeness to a prophet is a combination of the operation of the ministry of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

The prophet composure is a direct link to the feelings of the father’s heart and burden in a given situation or environment.  For anyone who do not understand the spiritual, character temperament of a prophet, one could almost conclude that they are schizophrenic.  What usually excite other believers, to a prophet could be highly grievous due to how the lord feels about the very thing. While prophets could be seen by most people to be highly emotional, that should however not be assumed as weakness, because their state of emotion could most time be a direct reflection of an imminent danger or even a coming judgment.

This temperament unfortunately, are still areas, major part of the body of Christ are still struggling to perfectly understand, particularly amongst the leadership of the church, and this lack of understanding, usually leads to misunderstanding in their interactions even amongst those who may think they know them.

While prophets are connected to earthly realities, they can however be completely detached from things that gets people very happy and excited unfortunately, and this is not of their making. Their heart is forever searching for realms and realities beyond this realm of life.

Prophets seeks to walk in a continual state of purity of heart and intentions; they seem to be too detailed about things that others may feel are not that important. This is where, in most cases they get into trouble, especially with their immediate family, friends, and very close ministry staff workers who in most cases assumes they don’t care or concern about family and other domestic issues.

The heart of a prophet

The priority of the state of a prophet’s heart is completely different in value from what may concern most folks at a given time, and this is not because they don’t care. In fact, their love and care can only be truly measured when we truly understand the level of the burden of their heart.

It is crucially important to understand the world of prophets before getting close to them because their life is a two edge-sword. They could easily pick up habitual sinful nature, if such sin nature remains unchecked; they could highly be grieved to the point of reacting in a manner that may look unacceptable.

A prophet understands that everything regarding his existence is regulated by intent and providence. Therefore, he sees himself and every other thing from the vantage view of the Fathers eternal will. He is very aware that he owns nothing, and whatever is at his or her disposal are dedicated for the furtherance of the will and purpose of the father. The truth is, a matured prophet understand that he is a Nazarene, called to function both as a Levites and priest amongst the rest of the community.

Furthermore, the office of a prophet can be said to house a specialized grace which deals with detailed assignment of executing and regulating the judicial initiatives of kingdom advancement.  This is more of a high level governmental position that interacts with activity that shapes and shifts condition of existence both from natural and spiritual realm.

Due to their solid footing on the priestly ministry of prayer and intercession, they carry executive authority and power to address entities the scripture refers to has principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, spiritual wickedness in high places regardless of their geographical location.

The prophets’ office or mantle if you will, releases divine truths, doctrines, principles and kingdom value standards that were once sealed, forgotten or lost in time past. In other words, the core ministry of the prophet’s office deals with:

1- The ministry of the word or revelation

2- The ministry of redemption

3- The ministry of presentation,

4- The ministry of representation,

5- The ministry of revival,

6- The ministry of reformation,

7- The ministry of transformation

8- The ministry of the restoration of all things and few other we shall look at in our next session on this discussion.

Thank you for taking the time to read and follow me in this past few weeks on this teaching. We shall look into some practical side of the prophetic ministry in our next session.

MY INVITATION, CALLING, AND PERSONAL EXPIRIENCE IN THE PROPHETIC MINISTRY.

By Isaiah-Phillips Akintola

About five years ago, the Lord granted me a rare opportunity within the vastness of his grace to train and interact with few brethren back then with regards to some of the core character components, the nature and function of the prophetic ministry.

Somehow, after the training, I was not opportune nor permitted to speak, nor to publish the material on my blog which I will usually do with most of my materials for reasons only known to the father.

Not too long ago, I began to sense and feel the urgency in my spirit to revisit the subject, but I must admit that I have somewhat, unduly procrastinated on the matter until late 2015 when I received a message from a very dear brother who wanted my view on the ministry of a prophet.

I felt convicted, and instantly recognized that it was the Holy Spirit indirectly prompting me to update and release the material for the spiritual edification of those who might need certain fundamental understanding, or clarification regarding the subject on the prophetic.

I could still remember the very first time I tried putting a comprehensive material together relating to this subject, was about two decades plus ago.

This was just before the apostolic reformation stream began to gain popularity in some part of the [Nigerian] West African church community where I have had the opportunity to pioneer a work for the lord for about two decades plus.

Back then in the early 80s when I gave my heart to the Lord, the subject or the ministry of the prophets was at his pick in terms of giftens and manifestation. The focus then was mainly founded on two premise; 1] the use of the gift for personal [material and emotional] blessing. 2]

The use of the gift for eschatological end time events. The intensity of global political realignment caused many to major the prophetic on not just the coming of Christ but also on the manifestation of the anti-Christ-known as the man of Sin.

Back then, I was doing a series of study on the fivefold ministry gifts, and of cause, my major was in the prophetic office and its various organs of ministry, but unfortunately the material got missing in one of the commercial computer centers we were using back then for our ministry stuff.

Those were still in the days of floppy disk storage, and of cause virus infection was quite high back then. The truth was, losing those resourceful materials was quite painful and I could not just summon up courage and motivation to rewrite the material again after the incident.

THE MISSREPRESENTATION

Having operated in the prophetic grace for almost three decades, I have witnessed few extreme of the prophetic, and I have been graciously opportune to also see various seasons of prophetic shifts and emphasis function both within the body of Christ and across the nations respectively.

And if I may quickly add, I Have also witness lots of gimmicks, weird, unbiblical and satanic stuff imported into the house of God in the name of Christ and the prophetic ministry just as we can see today.

This misrepresentation has caused a huge dysfunctionality and damage to the image of Christ and his Body across the globe that when people today hear that you are a prophet, their immediate reaction is to look at you first with a very suspicious perception, and I truly do not blame them because many have sadly been injured and hurt to the point of almost been destroyed by these impostors who send themselves and represent their own selfish interest in the name of a prophet.

The truth is, there is a lot the body of Christ is yet to know and thoroughly understand in terms of the precise footing and foundation of the character nature and functionality of all the ascended ministry gifts, but in particular, the office and gift of the prophet.

Through this note, my aim is to introduce you to the office and ministry of a prophet from the point of one who is graced with a watchman’s spirit and priestly prophetic teaching foundation, and maybe, you can journey with me on a narrow, ancient route that may possibly recalibrate your heart, sight and hearing capability.

It is indeed my desire that your faith and that of many within the present kingdom advance will gets energized with the capacity to press beyond the boundaries men and religious system has set in both defining and measuring what they assume as the prophetic ministry.

This resource should help in identifying what I call a prophetic spirit, a prophetic gift and the office of prophet. I have through the grace of God used my own personal experience and revelatory insight in the word of God to highlight the office of the prophet, built on a solid foundation of biblical truth and its guiding doctrines.

I pray and hope that you will open your heart to the truths locked in the material because it has been written through the divine guidance and inspiration of the Spirit. There is nothing of self-glorification or man’s agenda here.

My desire is to see that the corporate body of Christ quickly and accurately return to the apostolic pattern given to her at the ascension of our lord. The prophetic ministry, like the rest of the ascension ministry gifts are the very extension of Christ life and desire for the building up of the saints and the restoration of creation from the bondage of the fallen Adamic nature.

Meaning, they are not the idea of some religious groups or denominational system. Neither are they the figment of some intellectual humanistic ideologies that has been allowed to infiltrate and almost replace the function of the ascended ministry gifts today in some church communities. This is Christ very life, expressing himself in some very unique dimensions without division or friction of intent. Here are some ways or forms the life and ministry of Christ is expressed through the prophetic spirit:

MY INTRODUCTION TO THE PROPHETIC MINISTRY

I was early introduced to the prophetic ministry in the 80s when I gave my life to Christ in what can be referred to as a hybrid Pentecostal Charismatic community setting.

My pastor was a highly-gifted faith-prosperity preacher who was much connected to the Oklahoma faith-prosperity movement in America.

He used to make lots of trips overseas to invite seasoned ministers of the gospel to come preach and teach in his church, and I can tell you back then, the experience was like heaven on earth.

I could not just have enough of God’s word. We were exposed to books on various topics, tons of tapes and cd’s of great preachers who have had deep revelatory and intimate experience with the Father were available at a very low cost.

The entire system and its general culture was my first spiritual library that taught me things I could never have imagined knowing and understanding in relating to spiritual realities.

I was in my secondary school back then, and things back then were quite difficult for me as a teenager growing up, but I found solace and comfort in the church community until I was finally employed as a staff of the church, and later became the personal assistance to my pastor.

I saw as a divine opportunity in my call to serve him but, I had no clue to the degree of the vastness of this opportunity until as was exposed to my pastor’s personal library. It was a wow moment for me!

Back to the church meetings, the presence of God was quite visible and the ministration of praise, worship, intercession and the word was excellent in terms of the emphasis of the season.

The culture of the house was charged with faith to the degree that anything is possible. People stayed in Sunday service for close to six to seven hours. In some cases, brethren said from morning till evening before leaving for home. The church atmosphere was so rich and inviting that people literally don’t want to leave.

The presence of God was tangible, and miracle was a natural occurrence back then. My spirit yarns and longs for more of the intangibility of the presence of God, and soaked in every word declared, especially those that has to do with the spirit and act of prayer.

Some of those invited guests used to touch on things that sound strange back then to many of our guys, but somehow, they resonate deep within my spiritman. A longed for more of what I was hearing even though I didn’t fully comprehend what was happening in my own life. I could still remember during one of the morning session seminars, we had what was called prophetic impartation.

There were this team of men and women who came from United States to the church and somehow, I found myself standing in front of the head of the team, and a elderly women who was a prophet, and she began prophesying into my life. Wow! I have never in my life seen or experienced such a thing before.

This experience was strange to some the brethren back then, but the impartation of words was like you been heat with a wild wind. I was so fire up that I could stay awake all night just praying and seeking the face of God. I wanted more of God in my life that religion and even that charismatic experience I used to love was no longer satisfying for me.

Sometimes later, I had an encounter that finally did it for me in terms of been called into ministry. I had what was known as an open vision. Please note, this is not a doctrine and should not be seen as a template of anyone’s calling into ministry.

Heaven uses the various dealings and experiences of our lives to shape and fashion how we are called to respond to Gods voice and demands. What works for brother A may not necessarily work for Brother X.

I needed to share this experience to buttress the fact that regardless of how horrible, terrifying or dysfunctional your life’s foundation maybe, if the lord points his finger on you, you cannot run or hide from his call.

I can tell you, I grow up with a much-damaged self-image and identity. This dysfunctional state brought me to a point where I had concluded that there is no God. The image of God painted to me by the church and the highly religious family around me was completely different to the experience I was having, so I decided it was over with the issue of the existence of God.

Anyhow, years later I finally gave my heart to the lord and I was at church auditorium praying with the rest of the brethren on this particular day.

I used to like facing the wall while praying. In the intensity of my prayer with my eyes wild open, I saw the picture of myself projected on the wall I was facing with a megaphone, preaching in a particular street that I can still see as I am writing this note.

It was the most frightening thing I have ever experienced. Yet, I was highly trilled and feel with joy at the same time of such an encounter.

While I was still trying to look around if someone else saw what I was seeing, the picture disappeared and that was it. The rest was for me to figure out by the leading of the Spirit of truth what the Lord was saying to me.

And I can tell you that it took me years to begin to gain insight and understanding regarding what the Lord showed me back then. I initially thought I was called to be an evangelist, so, from 4am, I am up praying until around 5am when I usually get ready to go out and preach on streets as people get ready to go to their various workplaces.

Preaching on the street was my work and I loved it with all my heart. My voice was the alarm bells of many back then. I was determined that people must first hear my voice before the Muslim call to prayer starts around pass five in the morning. Talk about zeal, I was highly zealous for God.

Oh, I preached my heart out in meetings and buses. Preaching inside buses was my favorite in those days. God used me mightily in the gifts of faith and miracles, coupled with my psalmist grace. The presence of Jehovah was electrifying back then.

The issue of how God speaks and how we are to listen and respond to him, I think is still a big issue the church corporately still need to devote quality time and space to rediscover. If I had someone around back then who could help in interpreting what I saw, I am very sure I could have gone far in the assignment of heaven for my life.

The spiritual experience I had back then sent me on a journey of trying to discover what on earth I was assigned to do for the lord. I was very much aware that the hand of the Lord was upon me but I was clueless regarding the particular area He wanted me to function.

REDEFINING THE PROPHETIC MINISTRY

insight into the prophetic

REDEFINING THE PROPHETIC MINISTRY SERIES

PART 1

By Isaiah-Phillips Akintola

Intention and consideration

We could begin this teaching and dialogue about the prophetic by first exploring the numerous testimonies, many have received in my early days of primarily functioning around some of the mainstream gifts of the spirit, associated with the prophetic department of the five-ascended ministry calling.

I could also do a brief highlight of some of the best materials, whose view on the subject of the prophetic ministry is mainly focused on a particular topic and direction which of course, are needed in the broader perspective of divine agenda. And on the other hand, I could also share with you, countless testimony of some highly-gifted servants of God, whose grace and giftens in the prophetic are known to be on the cutting-edge of current spiritual emphasis amongst their contemporaries.

Within the current mixture and perversion, we’re witnessing today, there are still those among us today who carries an undefiled, authentic prophetic grace, and they speak in a clear, divine order of their mandate, and you will be somewhat captured and enthralled with the great testimonies of these individuals as you hear or read their accounts.

But the truth is, my intention is not to merely get you interested by intrigue, or exited, based on the testimony and manifested gifts related to the charismatic side of the ministry of the prophetic.

My honest intention is to systematically, in the spirit of simplicity, lead you behind the performing stage of what the prophetic ministry, grace and office is all about.  My desire is for us to explore and precisely locate the spirit and the man behind the gift or calling of the prophetic ministry.

As a new testament prophet, whose primary assignment is to teach, skill and equip the Saints for their own work of ministry, I passionately long to infuse your spirit and your entire being with a passion that will awake what is already locked inside of you through the information, revelation and experience you may have as you journey with me through that which I have received of the father in my days of training and development on the spirit of the prophetic.

My hunger is for your total man to know how to see, hear, understand, accept and relate to this seemly mysterious ministry gift. Therefore, in this note on the prophetic, you will find patterns that give insight into what I call, THE CALLING, THE PREPARATION and THE RELEASE to function.

A FOUNDATION THAT SHAPES THE CALL INTO THE PROPHETIC.

4 My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me.

5 Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time, each will receive their praise from God.

6 Now, brothers and sisters, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying, “Do not go beyond what is written.” Then you will not be puffed up in being a follower of one of us over against the other. 1 Corinthians 4:4-6

This overhead scripture gives the accurate instructive, doctrinal framework that ought to guide our approach to any matter of divine engagement and initiative in life. The Lord in several occasions has used these words to guide, secure, and protect my heart from all forms of strange, ancient, doctrines and extra-biblical notions and philosophies, currently being awakened to challenge and frustrate the present reformation and redemptive agenda of the father for creation.

This is the day were all followers of the Lamb are requested to trim their lamp wick in anticipation of his arrival. Yet, only those whose lamps are filled with oil and are burning with greater intensity of Christ light will be able to survive the battle of falsehood loitering at every corner of our community in this season.

The conscience of our faith in the hope of our calling must be kept pure and in the right direction of divine intention, least our conscience becomes overridden by powerful, ancient demonic interference, designed to sway us off the track of sound spirituality.

Our ability to judge things both natural and spiritual must be guided on the state of our spiritual maturity which reflects an intense sense of discernment. The spiritual man judges all things while he is not judged by no man. Maintaining the scope of divine activity within the framework of biblical tenets and values are highly required in this hour.

The word of God Is the finality of spiritual understanding and the finalization of the standard that define and approves all forms of spiritual calling and experiences. Therefore, to grow within the ever-increasing reality of the word of God gives us the right spiritual foundation and insight into how we are to approach any matter, including that of the ascended ministry gifts.

FOUNDATION AND FRAMEWORK FOR THE CALL

It is highly important that we can precisely trace how we’ve been invited and introduced to the ways and things of the Spirit, including, the numerous ways and manners we received our ministry assignment and mandate.

One of the reasons for this is that it gives a clear picture of the spiritual philosophy that defines or shape the framework of what we term as our mandate assignment. This also helps to correct, adjust and further develop the foundational template required for sound, biblical perspective to life and ministry initiative.

The father will use various means and method to invite us to see his designed purpose for us. However, such means of invitation may not necessarily represent his consistent, reliable pattern and principle for divine assignment.

A good example of this is, the call of Moses through the burning bush does not make the ‘experience’ of the burning bush a consistent, reliable doctrinal premise of how we must be called or invited to the ministry. I need to make this clarification and distinction, and there are so many other examples in the word of God that we can examine as unique to how the Lord will call individuals.

The mistake many have made in the past, and unfortunately are still making today is the fact they assumed that as long as there’s some form of result in terms of miracle, signs and wonders been produced through their gifts and ministry, the manner they step into such ministry should not matter or bother anyone for that matter.

If there’s no clear biblical footing to how the father invites us to share in his redemptive and restoration agenda, many will continue to use their own yardstick, or so-called spiritual experience somewhere, or through some means to legitimize their position of being given a [prophetic] ministry assignment which in most cases does not represent nor reflect the accurate biblical value standard for divine invitation. If the footing our calling and invitation to ministry is inaccurate, the entire construct of life and ministry will eventually become defected., it’s only a matter of time.

Therefore, the means of how we engage in what is known in the word of God as the way, the truth and [life] experience of Christ defines the footing and orientation to how we step in any form of ministry assignment, but in particular, the prophetic office and its various organs of ministry.

This primary insight of introduction which we shall still further consider will guide and direction our hearts through the spirit of discernment as we seek clarity, context to the precise foundational footing of the spiritual [material] substance that shape the templates that ultimately forms the inner value structure of what we term as ministry or the prophetic, or any ascended ministry grace.

If this perceptional understanding is not well-seated within us, it’s only a matter of before the house of what we term ministry starts to crack from its very foundation.  For if the foundation be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

MY PERSONAL EXPIRIENCE OF INVITATION INTO THE PROPHETIC
