IN THE SCHOOL OF PRAYER WITH CHRIST: HEARING GOD’S VOICE IN PRAYER. PART 1. 2026/11/08

Hearing God is essential to prayer, faith and communion with Him. We may pray passionately and at length, yet focus more on expressing our hearts than on listening to what the Lord wants to say.

Prayer invites us not only to speak, but to attend closely to the One we address. As we listen, the Holy Spirit guides and instructs us through God’s voice, turning prayer from an expression of our desires into a response to His will and purpose.

The quality of our prayer is therefore measured less by the hours we spend speaking than by how clearly we discern what the Father is saying. Prayer that never makes room to hear Him fulfils only half its assigned purpose.

The speaker adds a sober observation about our lives. Where we stand today is the result of the voices we have heard and answered, and we will go only as fast as we are able to hear Him. Our spirituality is being upgraded in this season, and the upgrade begins with the ear.

Stillness Comes Before Knowing

The anchor text is Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God!” The psalm places stillness ahead of knowledge, which means that knowing God, and therefore hearing Him, depends on a quieted soul. You can hear God in the midst of noise only when the mind is no longer carried away by everything competing for its attention.

Stillness does not mean inactivity. It means a quiet soul that allows God to speak. The enemy understands this, and so he fills our days with noise: the body, the thoughts, the pride of life, the lust of the flesh, anything that keeps us from being still. Even our Christianity can serve him here, because we become so activity driven that we leave no room to hear. Martha was busy with much serving, while Mary “has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:42).
