INTRODUCTION: THE ORDER OF KINGDOM ECONOMY.
Any serious-minded leader understands that one of the keys to successful breakthrough is an attitude of relentless investment. Strategic investment forms the cornerstone of any successful enterprise. Whether you invest time, capital, expertise, or other resources, nothing of lasting value emerges without the deliberate commitment of something precious to achieve a greater return. This fundamental principle governs not only earthly ventures but also spiritual realities.
Just as natural success requires natural investment, spiritual breakthrough demands spiritual investment. The kingdom of God operates on divine economics where the currency is not necessarily money but a life of surrender, dedication, and sacrificial commitment.
The advancement of God in our life and through our life is not one that is limited by the highly needed knowledge of biblical doctrine. As I have often mentioned that doctrine is the framework that guides and balance ideologies and character representation. Yet, one can be filled with what may sound as apostolic doctrine as still be misaligned and empty of the very life of God.
The pursuit of the heart of the Father through the revelatory knowledge of Christ is made possible through a quest that comes from a hunger for God, and this, often, are manifestation of the ministry of meditation, prayer, intercession, and fasting.
To us, fasting is not merely a religious rite, or rituals put the prove of our hunger and quest for Christ life and nature to be revealed through our interface and relationship with the world we are sent to reach for the kingdom. Fasting to us is a deep revelation of our quest for the manifestation of the kingdom of God to be revealed in us and through our life.
When we speak of meaningful spiritual transformation and kingdom-centered breakthroughs, we must understand that fasting represents one of the most powerful forms of spiritual investment available to the believer. Fasting is not simply abstaining from food, it is the deliberate offering of our physical comfort and desires as seed sown into the spiritual realm, expecting a harvest of divine revelation, breakthrough, and transformation.
Why fasting is essential for kingdom access:
The kingdom of God is fundamentally spiritual in nature. Jesus declared, “My kingdom is not of this world” (John 18:36). Since the kingdom exists in the spiritual dimension, accessing its life realities requires spiritual understanding and methodology. Fasting serves as a key that unlocks spiritual perception, enabling us to see beyond the veil of natural circumstances into the eternal realities of God’s kingdom.
When we fast, we are declaring that our hunger for God supersedes our hunger for temporal things. This act of consecration creates spiritual sensitivity, allowing us to perceive kingdom truths that remain hidden to the natural mind. As Paul wrote, “But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned” (1 Corinthians 2:14).
Beyond Religious Ritual:
Many approach fasting as mere religious obligation or traditional observance, but this perspective severely limits its transformative power. True fasting emerges from divine hunger, an insatiable spiritual appetite for more of God’s presence, nature, and kingdom reality to be manifested in and through our lives.
The advancement of God’s purposes through our existence is not restricted by our current level of doctrinal knowledge or spiritual maturity. Rather, it flows from a Spirit-filled-generated hunger that compels us to seek deeper encounters with the divine life of Christ. This hunger often manifests through the ministry of fasting, where we voluntarily decrease our natural appetites to increase our spiritual capacity.
Fasting as revelation of kingdom hunger: When we understand fasting correctly, it becomes the natural expression of our quest for the kingdom of God to be revealed within us and demonstrated through our daily lives. It represents our desperate cry for Christ’s life and nature to flow through us so powerfully that the world around us encounters the reality of God’s kingdom through our very being.
Understanding Christ’s nature transforms our fasting perspective. When we truly comprehend the life and character of Christ, fasting ceases to be a burdensome discipline and becomes an organic expression of our desire to be conformed to His image. Christ Himself demonstrated this principle through His forty-day fast in the wilderness, where He chose spiritual sustenance over physical nourishment, declaring that “man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).
Any Kingdom minded person understands that the proceeding word of God is what feeds and sustain the life and journey towards heaven’s ordained destination. However, this proceeding word comes through a life that is dedicated and committed to the call to sacrificial fast. For Christ’s life and will to be fully revealed in and through us, every aspect of our unsurrendered soul must be brought under divine governance. The soul—encompassing our mind, will, and emotions—often resists God’s purposes when it remains under the control of fleshly desires and worldly attachments.
Through the practical, sacrificial expression of fasting, we demonstrate our willingness to die to self-centered living and rise to kingdom-centered existence. This sacrifice creates space for the Holy Spirit to work deeply in areas of our lives that have remained untouched by surface-level spiritual activities.
Establishing Divine Government
At PortalsGate, we understand that fasting serves as one of the most effective methods for bringing our entire life system under the rule and government of God. This governmental aspect is crucial because the kingdom of God is fundamentally about God’s sovereign rule being established in every sphere of existence.
Why divine government matters: When God’s government is established in our lives, we become authentic representatives of His kingdom on earth. We carry the authority, wisdom, and power necessary to fulfill our prophetic mandate for this season and time. This is not about religious performance but about becoming vessels through which heaven’s reality invades earth’s circumstances.
The prophetic dimension:
Every believer carries a prophetic mandate—a divine assignment to demonstrate God’s kingdom reality in their sphere of influence. Whether in business, family, ministry, or community, we are called to be living prophecies of what God’s kingdom looks like when it manifests in practical situations.
Fasting position us for this mandate by creating spiritual alignment between our desires and God’s purposes, between our methods, and His ways, and between our timing and His kairos seasons. Through fasting, we develop the spiritual sensitivity necessary to discern God’s voice, understand His strategies, and execute His plans with divine precision and power.
The spiritual investment of fasting yields returns that far exceed any earthly venture. Through this sacred discipline, we gain access to kingdom realities that remain hidden from the natural eye, develop spiritual sensitivity that enables us to navigate by divine wisdom, and establish God’s government in our lives in ways that transform both us and our world.
As we embrace fasting not as religious duty but as kingdom investment, we position ourselves to receive the divine returns that come only to those who are willing to sacrifice the temporary for the eternal, the natural for the spiritual, and the flesh for the kingdom of God.
PART 2:
RENEWAL AND THE PRESENT SEASON:
It would be an understatement to say that this current season we find ourselves in requires a different breed of believers – those with keen prophetic insight, understanding, and maturity to address the complex challenges before us. From geopolitical disruptions to economic challenges, and the current spiritual battle engaging the church globally, fasting is required to gain clarity and understanding of God’s ways. Just as we see in the days of Daniel in Babylon, who fasted for 21 days for spiritual breakthrough over the realm (Daniel 10:2-3).
Daniel is a model for us as the third day ecclesia that seeks to accelerate God ‘s visionary agenda within the nations, particularly in this period of systematic complex darkness, pervading the hearts and sociopolitical landscapes of nations.
Fasting enhances the renewal and development of neural pathways that allow us to see new possibilities and innovations. The Father desires us to live healthy, fruitful, and fulfilling lives. Fasting gives us a sense of sound health, peace, and quietness deep within our inner man. Every aspect of our lives needs adequate care, and fasting plays a major role in this renewal and wholeness of our entire spirit, soul, and body.
Spiritual discipline lays the foundation for spiritual breakthrough and advancement. The time of fasting is a time of spiritual renewal – a time of spiritual redemption, recalibration, spiritual development and reform, rediscovery of divine intent, realignment and redirection, and restoration. This is when our prophetic knowledge and insight are greatly enhanced and empowered to further pursue the initiatives of the kingdom of God in greater light.
NEED FOR DETOXIFICATION AND RE-CALIBRATION:
Our intention and deep desire is to be moved to a higher position of prophetic sight, wisdom, operation, and functionality to courageously build heaven’s mandate for our generation. To dethrone the works of the flesh is not a game we can play casually as we have in the past. There must be a well-defined, structured system put in place, and in this fast, fasting is a major part in dethroning the flesh and enthroning the reign of Christ over the soul.
We believe fasting is important in helping us develop spiritual knowledge that enhances our sense of current revelatory knowledge and wisdom in our journey into the prophetic realities of the ascended Kingdom life and its establishment for the present season. Fasting keeps the mind in good shape and our thoughts on the right path while our body is brought to that point of divine realignment.
The toxic waste in our body system needs to be drained out so our body system can experience renewal. The science of neuron discipline states that it takes at least 21 days of repetitive practice of a particular discipline or task to alter the rigid neuron mapping of the brain that allows for certain behavioral patterns and thinking. This finding is certainly consistent with biblical studies. If we truly desire to see change, we need to engage our pattern of thinking with new perspectives and experiences that allow us to produce the fruit we desire.
This means that if you desire to see specific transformation in any particular area of your life, you’ll have to invest at least three weeks retraining those areas that have developed wrong habits, which are strongholds. What I’ve discovered is that many already have hard wiring in specific parts of their thinking (mindset) that has created predictable patterns of thinking and behavioral responses. Hence, it makes it difficult for them to see themselves changing.
This period of fasting can be an important time to dismantle and reset your thought and emotional mindset back to the divine, original intention of the Father for your life. You can experience life the way the Father desires it for you. You can live a fulfilling life with yourself and others around you. The way you see yourself and others can drastically improve just by allowing this period of detoxing to complete its work in you.
These three weeks can redefine your entire life system – from the way you think by resetting your entire system to the place that allows you to become more functional, healthy, and productive. Starting from the place of honest evaluation of where you are versus where you ought to be is a great place to start. What we want to achieve during these 21 days is movement that really counts.
The training and teachings on taking negative thoughts captive since the beginning of the year has laid an excellent foundation and framework for us to see the importance of how mindset defines our entire life’s response system. This period of fasting can be seen as the practical aspect of putting that training into action that should lead to mental, emotional, and spiritual development and transformation.
In the next 21 days, we will seek to reframe our thoughts and self-view to better understand heaven’s prophetic intention for the season. It’s no secret that those who are going to engage the advancement of heaven’s purpose for the days ahead must wear a different mindset that is both suitable and capable.
KEY AREAS THAT SHOULD REFLECT IN ANY MEANINGFUL BIBLE-BASED FAST:
1. DETOXING AND DISMANTLING WRONG MINDSET AND STRONGHOLDS
Uprooting false ideologies that have taken deep root within the ground and belief system of a person. “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5). We must tear down the false frameworks of thinking that have shaped our seeing and understanding.
2. IDENTIFYING AND BREAKING THE HOLD OF A WORLDLY LIFESTYLE
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:2). This involves breaking free from patterns, habits, and mindsets that align with worldly systems rather than Kingdom principles.
3. DIGGING NEW WELLS OF SPIRITUAL THIRST AND HUNGER FOR DIVINE THINGS
“As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God” (Psalm 42:1). Creating a fresh appetite and longing for the things of God, developing spiritual sensitivity and hunger for His presence and Word.
4. RETURNING TO THE PLACE OF THE PRIORITY OF MINISTRY OF GOD’S WORD
“But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). Establishing God’s Word as the primary source of nourishment and direction for our lives.
5. RETURNING THE ARK OF THE COVENANT – BECOMING A PERSON OR TRIBE OF THE PRESENCE OF THE FATHER
Like David who brought back the Ark (2 Samuel 6), we seek to restore the centrality of God’s presence in our lives, becoming dwelling places of His glory and carriers of His presence wherever we go.
6. RECAPTURING THE ESSENCE AND VISION OF YOUR HIGH CALLING
“I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14). Rediscovering and refocusing on the divine purpose and calling God has placed upon your life.
7. JOURNEY TOWARDS THE ASCENDED LIFE
“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God” (Colossians 3:1). Moving from earthly, carnal thinking to heavenly perspective and Kingdom mindset.
8. ASCENDING TO THE MOUNTAIN OF GOD
Like Moses who went up to meet God on Mount Sinai (Exodus 24:18), we seek higher levels of intimacy, revelation, and encounter with the Almighty, positioning ourselves for divine encounters and fresh revelation.
9. EMBRACING THE CHARACTER FORMATION OF THE NATURE OF HUMILITY
“And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted” (Matthew 23:12). Allowing the Holy Spirit to form Christ’s humble character within us, breaking pride and self-exaltation.
10. IDENTIFYING WHERE CHRIST STILL NEEDS TO BE FORMED IN YOU
“My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you” (Galatians 4:19). Honest assessment of areas in our character, attitudes, and behaviors where Christ’s nature needs to be more fully developed.
11. ENGAGING THE PLACE OF THE CALIBRATION OF YOUR VISION
“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he” (Proverbs 29:18). Aligning our personal vision with God’s purposes, ensuring our life direction matches His divine intent for this season.
12. TO BECOME MORE SENSITIVE TO THE VOICE AND PROMPTING OF THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:27). Developing heightened spiritual sensitivity to discern God’s voice, leading, and promptings in daily life.
13. TO SEEK CLARITY, WISDOM, AND GUIDANCE IN SPECIFIC AREAS OF OUR PRESENT ASSIGNMENTS AND CALLINGS
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him” (James 1:5). Seeking divine direction for current responsibilities and future steps.
14. TO BELIEVE THE LORD FOR SPIRITUAL BREAKTHROUGH AND FREEDOM FROM ANY FORM OF LIMITATION AND BARRIERS
“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds)” (2 Corinthians 10:3-4). Breaking through spiritual barriers and limitations that have hindered progress.
15. PRAYING AND SEEKING TO BE ROOTED IN THE FRUIT, NATURE, AND CHARACTER OF THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law” (Galatians 5:22-23). Deepening the manifestation of Christ’s character in our daily living.
16. SEEKING TO KNOW THE LORD AND HIS WORD BETTER AND DEEPER
“That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death” (Philippians 3:10). Pursuing deeper intimacy and knowledge of God through His Word and presence.
17. BELIEVING THE FATHER FOR THE SPIRITUAL RELEASE OF RESOURCES AND CAPITAL IN THE FULFILLMENT OF ONE’S ASSIGNMENT
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). Trusting God for the provision necessary to fulfill divine assignments and Kingdom purposes.
18. PRAYING FOR THE ECCLESIA TO BE AWAKENED TO HER SPIRITUAL DEMAND FOR THE AGE
Interceding for the Church to recognize her prophetic role and responsibility in this critical hour of history, awakening to the urgency of the times and her Kingdom mandate.
19. DEEPER SPIRITUAL CONNECTION AND CALIBRATION TO KNOW GOD’S WAYS AND MIND FOR THE SEASON
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord” (Isaiah 55:8). Aligning our understanding with God’s perspective and purposes for this specific season in history.
20. TO BE ABLE TO SEE AND TRANSLATE OPPORTUNITIES INTO EFFECTIVE RESOURCES FOR KINGDOM ADVANCEMENT
Developing prophetic discernment to recognize divine opportunities and the wisdom to transform them into resources that advance God’s Kingdom purposes on earth.
21. TO HAVE VISION-SUSTAINED ABILITY THAT WOULD NOT COMPROMISE VALUES DURING THE COURSE OF CHALLENGES AND THREATS
“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not” (Galatians 6:9). Building spiritual stamina to maintain Kingdom values and vision despite opposition and difficulties.
22. TO HAVE A FRESH BURDEN FOR THE SALVATION OF UNSAVED IMMEDIATE AND EXTENDED FAMILY MEMBERS
“Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved” (Romans 10:1). Developing Paul’s heart for the salvation of our loved ones who haven’t yet received Christ.
23. AWAKENING CHURCH CONSCIOUSNESS TOWARDS THE REDEMPTIVE MANDATE OF GOD FOR THE NATION
Stirring the Church to embrace her role in national transformation through prayer, intercession, and prophetic action. Seeking divine direction for the work of global harvest and the spiritual awakening of the Body of Christ globally. One major cause of disunity in the Church is the lack of revelation of Christ and His values and principles as related to spirituality and doctrinal boundaries.
This 21-day journey begins September 1st. It’s time to invest spiritually for the breakthrough, transformation, and divine alignment our lives and generation desperately need. The hour demands believers who carry heaven’s perspective and power to address the complex challenges of our time.
